Congratulation KUBAL. ![]() Photo from European Aluminium Gunnar Nyberg HSE manager at KUBAL and Sandro Starita Director EHS & Sustainability On 1st of June AMS and STAMI held an hands on PIMEX course hosted by Hydro Aluminium Sunndal. The aim was to boost the use of PIMEX at our plant also to get more comfortable using the equipment. We started in a classroom with plant presentation on how each plant has used the PIMEX until now and what challenges have come up. Statens arbeidsmiljøinstitutt (STAMI) did an introduction on what is new with the equipment and general use of the PIMEX. After that everyone started up there equipment, we had Nils Petter Skaugset and Ole Synnes from STAMI to help with the start ups and smaller fixes. We also had demonstration of heat stress measurements and did some ergonomics measurements in the potline. Everyone that wanted to measure under the supervision of STAMI was able to. This is a follow up from the PIMEX project 2006-2012. Hilde Merete Assheim was asked: What is the most important contribute from politicians to strengthen the future of industry in Norway? - I know the aluminum industry well. It is sold at the same price no matter where it is produced. The important thing for Norwegian businesses is to have the conditions that do not oblige us cost our competitors do not have. It is a paradox that Norway pay for CO2 costs in electricity prices, although we fully rely on hydropower. Without coverage for this additional cost, we find that water-based aluminum production in Norway will be phased out in favor of aluminum production in areas based on power with CO2 emissions, but without CO2 costs. Hydro Aluminium technology pilot at Karmøy is nominated for the prestigious TU Tech Awards as one of the year's technology achievements!
